Rutgers Master Gardener Program

Rutgers Master Gardeners are unique group of volunteers trained in horticulture by Rutgers Cooperative Extension personnel to provide outreach programs to home gardeners in their community.

What do they do? These volunteers learn about horticulture, provide community and university services, and enjoy the company of other like-minded volunteers.

Where do they work? Through opportunities in the Somerset County Extension Office and on committees of their choosing, newly trained volunteers return 125 hours within 18 months of completing their training, and 28 hours annually to remain active.

What types of service? Community service includes such areas as the Garden Helpline, Children's Programs, Speaker's Bureau, Horticultural Therapy, Public Outreach Events, and many others.

University service includes volunteering in agriculture and horticulture research at various university-held properties.
